SailGP, the most exciting racing on water, and Waymo, the world’s leading fully autonomous driving technology company, have announced a new partnership in which Waymo will become the Official Rideshare Partner of the Oracle San Francisco Sail Grand Prix this month.
The Oracle San Francisco Sail Grand Prix will be the fifth stop on this season’s Rolex SailGP Championship, in which 12 teams battle it out in identical 50-foot foiling catamarans, racing faster than wind speeds at over 60 miles per hour. The two-day spectacle will mark SailGP’s fifth visit to the city against the stunning backdrop of the Golden Gate Bridge with thousands of fans watching the action.
Waymo will offer SailGP fans zero-emission, renewably powered rides to and from the event. With more than 200,000 paid rides served each week, Waymo is preventing more than 220 tons of carbon emissions weekly and helping cities such as San Francisco reach their climate goals.
Ben Johnson, SailGP’s Chief Revenue Officer, said: “We are thrilled to partner with Waymo for our Oracle San Francisco Sail Grand Prix, as our mission to be a purpose-driven sports and entertainment property blends perfectly with their aim to create safer, more sustainable streets for everyone. Together, we can create a full end-to-end experience for the fan on race day while also helping the city of San Francisco reach its climate goals.”
Waymo will provide one lucky winner for each race day with four complimentary Waterfront Premium tickets to the event and the opportunity to participate in the exclusive Guest Chaser on-water experience to ride alongside the F50s on a speedboat through a social sweepstakes. Waymo will also have an activation space for fan engagement at the SailGP Race Stadium and be visible at the event with on-site branding and across SailGP’s digital channels leading into the event.
Suzanne Philion, VP, Marketing, Communications, and Public Affairs said: “The Oracle San Francisco Sail Grand Prix is a perfect destination to welcome riders from San Francisco and around the world to experience our fully autonomous Waymo One ride-hailing service. We’re looking forward to providing an amazing fan experience in partnership with SailGP for this iconic San Francisco moment.”
