Black Foils grinder Louis Sinclair and DS Team France strategist Manon Audinet have been named as the athletes injured in the collision between the two teams in Auckland.
The two teams were involved in a high-speed crash on the first leg of race three on the opening day of the ITM New Zealand Sail Grand Prix.
Sinclair and Audinet were swiftly taken off of the stricken F50s and rushed to hospital for medical attention.
A statement from the Black Foils said Sinclair had suffered injuries to his legs in the crash.
“Sinclair is receiving treatment for compound fractures to both legs but is in a stable condition,” the statement said.
“Thank you for all of the messages of support since the incident. Special thank you to all of the medical staff involved in the response to the crash and subsequent treatment of all the athletes involved.”
DS Team France also issued an update on Audinet, stating that she was thrown forward in the collision, breaking the team’s left-side steering wheel in the process.
Audinet was being assessed for abdominal injuries caused by the impact.
“The entire DS Automobiles SailGP Team France has Manon Audinet and Louis Sinclair in their thoughts and stands fully alongside them during this time.”
