News Access Rules Policy

SailGP’s News Access Rules are designed to provide the broadest possible exposure of the event through the world’s media outlets, while protecting the rights of our Broadcast partners and SailGP’s intellectual property.

These rules are subject to change as directed by SailGP from time to time at its sole discretion. SailGP’s News Access Rules extend to regularly scheduled bona-fide current affairs news programming by way of terrestrial, cable, satellite and IPTV transmissions and digital retransmissions of such news programming in its entirety.

All media organizations who wish to attend a SailGP event must be approved and accredited by SailGP’s Media Operations team.

Non-rights holders will only be allowed to bring cameras and/or recording equipment onto the event site for the purpose of carrying out non live reports and interviews.

Non-rights holders must in the first instance contact the Broadcaster listed against their territory or the SailGP Media Services team at mediaservice@sailgp.com to obtain race footage. Non-rights holders may supplement this footage with images from their own camera for pieces

  • A maximum of 60 seconds of race footage per race day and 120 seconds per programme can be used
  • No archive rights are granted in relation to the race footage
  • No distribution on social media is permitted
  • To be used in accordance with news access rules, laws, conventions of the respective territory

Pursuant to the provisions of the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth), non-rights holders are permitted to cover the event from outside the venues to the extent permitted by the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth).

2. Social Media (Digital News Access)

Accredited media may not film or post any material onto their social media channels using mobile devices such as phones, tablets, GoPro, etc..

Exceptions can be made for Digital Press who have prior written consent from SailGP to use the above mentioned devices for filming in the Mixed Zone and for non live reports and interviews, in line with non-rights holders filming rights.

SailGP may appoint third parties to provide distribution on social media for the purpose of News broadcasts within the territory.

SailGP reserves the right to distribute unlimited clips on its own channels.

3. Live Streaming

Nothing contained herein prohibits a News Broadcaster from continuing to undertake live video streaming simulcasts of its news channels on the channel's official website provided that the content being streamed on the channel website is the exact replica of the programme run on the News Broadcaster's news channel, it is displayed simultaneously with its television news broadcast and such simulcasting is customarily provided on the official website by the channel for all content that it broadcasts in the ordinary course. It is clarified that live video streaming simulcasting of the news broadcast that includes Fresh Footage may be undertaken only on the News Broadcaster's official website and not on any sailing website or any other website, whether or not owned by the News Broadcaster.

Notwithstanding the aforementioned, News Broadcasters shall not display deferred or archived Fresh Footage, whether as part of news bulletin or otherwise, on their own official website or via their account or otherwise on a third-party video-upload site such as YouTube, DailyMotion, etc.
