Diego Botin’s Spain has recorded back-to-back event wins after spectacularly beating New Zealand and France in New York’s winner-takes-all shootout.
The Spanish won the start and hit 72 km/h to just hold off the Kiwis with a slim three second lead at each gate, before screaming across the line in front of packed shoreside crowds on Governors Island.
New Zealand was left to cross in second, just short of repeating last season’s New York triumph, while France finished third for the second event in a row, marking back to back podiums for Quentin Delapierre’s squad.
It marks a second consecutive win for the Spanish, which triumphed in San Francisco, and means Diego Botin’s team takes the top spot on the 2025 Season leaderboard - pushing the BONDS Flying Roos into second place. An improved performance for the Kiwis in New York meanwhile sees them move into third overall.
Despite reigning supreme in the Final, Botin’s team just managed to scrape in to the three-boat showdown by beating Mubadala Brazil in the last qualifying fleet race to finish the event with an up-and-down 1-4-3-2-11-7 scorecard.
The fleet went to battle in challenging second day conditions in across three further qualifying races and the Final, with gusty and shifty winds of around 28 km/h, gusting to 35 km/h, and a choppy sea states caused by famous New York current.

This placed extra focus on flawless boat handling and razor sharp strategy, demonstrated by Mubadala Brazil, which recorded its first ever fleet race win in race four, France which took the win in race five, and BONDS Flying Roos, which clawed back crucial points to triumph in race six - its second race win of the event.
Meanwhile, it was a disappointing event for Red Bull Italy and home favorites the United States, which finished in 11th and 12th respectively, both with 0 points.
Key stats from the second day of racing saw New Zealand make the best timed starts, crossing the line an average 1.03 seconds after the gun, Emirates GBR sail the shortest distances - an average of 6.7 km, and BONDS Flying Roos record the highest average speed - 60.47 km/h. But it was Mubadala Brazil with the highest average flight time - a perfect 100%, and New Zealand which recorded the fastest speed of the day - 84 km/h.

With the conclusion of the 2025 Season’s USA triple header, SailGP heads to Europe; the Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix takes place in Portsmouth on July 19/20.
